Sharyn Kervyn de Volkaersbeke is passionate about wine. Her entire professional career has been devoted to this Industry; learning and sharing her knowledge with the staff she trains, at lectures, seminars, and with fellow enthusiasts in the wine organizations to which she belongs. She is a member of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), Society of Wine Educators (SWE), a ‘Tastevin’ level member of The Dionysian Wine Society Intenational and also in the American Wine Society (AWS), where she served as the National Tasting Project Chair from 2016 to 2021, Regional Vice President from 2017 to 2019 and is currently a national wine educator and creator of WineSmarts II and III courses. She is a Certified Wine Judge (CWJ) with AWS, Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) with SWE, and Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. Sharyn is also a WSET Diploma graduate with honors (their highest level 4, a prerequisite to Master of Wine). In addition, Sharyn teaches wine education at area colleges.
Sharyn has been judging annually for Amateur and Commercial Competitions across the country since 2010, including renowned International Competitions such as the Sommelier’s Choice Awards, USA Wine Ratings, Texas International, The Great American and the Finger Lakes International Wine Competitions. She also received invitations to judge in prestigious OIV wine competitions in Frankfurt and Berlin, Germany.
